Carlos Valderrama believes that the current crop of Colombian players lack the creativity necessary to be a dominant side.Valderrama, who represented Colombia at three World Cups and holds the record for most caps for the national team with 111, thinks the squad lack playmakers."This team is short on playmaking ability. If you want to score goals, you have to be able to create, and we're lacking those kind of players. I think they [playmakers] are still around, but they're not given a chance," he told Fifa.com.Valderrama went on to say that there are promising Colombians coming through the ranks but they have not been given an opportunity to show off their talent.

"There are so many things in a coach's life that I don't like: staying in hotels the night before games; the fact that a third party's mistakes might undo the work you've done. Add into the mix that I'm a very forward person, I can't help speaking my mind... I think that during my sporting career I already did what I enjoy most in life: playing football."
